Oh My Gosh! Cute Fluffy Kitty with the Socks on the Head Stories -- The Complete Collection
Forward
Cute Fluffy Kitty was a fictional character originally developed from late middle-school to late high-school. Although not the oldest character in the Square Chicken Comics family, Kitty leapt forward of the rest with early success. Accent Digital published the first sixty Cute Fluffy stories in 2008. The original intention was to make 366 stories -- one for each day of the leap year. However, there were two factors which stopped this process. First, was a very good university offer. Writing and publishing a series of books was a major time commitment in high-school and simply wasn't feasible while balancing a full college schedule. Second, sales of the first book exactly broke even. The first book was simply not successful enough to divert attention from college opportunities. If either the first book was more successful or the college offer was less impressive, then the original goal might already have been achieved. However, that does not change the intention to finish the task. The six books and six supplemental stories supporting a screenplay/video game will be completed. Completing this set of stories comes with many challenges. The most critical one is developing a means of fostering the same voice as an adolescent American teen of the early 2000s. This includes researching the correct popular cultural references, academic curriculum, and perspective on what rural American life was like. Then, with all that gathered, to filter out the larger picture. Every story can be described as a reduction to what could be seen, understood, and processed using the very limited psychological tools of a child. The second step is exactly the reason this project is so critical. It creates a time-capsule of what it meant to be in the process of learning, growing, and developing at the dawn of the information age. To a certain extent, these stories lie historically on the critical boundary where personal and public information could naturally be 'forgotten'. With the information era now in full swing, that is certainly no longer the case. As for the task itself, there is certainly a lot of good fortune. The first book will be rewritten here word for word with minimal editing. Most of the original illustrations survived and will be included. Those that did not will be redone. A second book was actually written, although not edited or published. Approximately ten stories of the third book were also written and not published. All stories afterward are modern creations. We allowed ourselves the artistic liberty to look at these stories with a critical eye. First, is simply to identify grammatical mistakes, revise incoherent narratives, and in the rare instance simply delete some of the weaker pieces of the collection. We believe this is acceptable, because it replicates the same editing process used to refine the first book in 2008. Second, is using the life and literary lessons learned in adulthood to enrich the stories and infuse life and dimension in the characters. In particular, this means removing most of the dialogue tags to increase the flow of conversation. Removing unnecessary dialogue tags allows conversations to move at a faster pace and gives the reader the freedom of immersion to imagine how the dialogue might be said. We believe providing more immersion for the reader to explore and imagine in Kitty's fictional world is good. It is a literary lesson that is simple enough for a high-school student to understand. As such, we deem it appropriate. Additionally, we gave Kitty a friend -- the French Genet, Jo. Giving Kitty a friend is a very complicated topic. This idea came from a conversation we had with a very successful American furry artist. What they saw through our work was a very consistent pattern: characters in the comics, stories, and animations of SCC lacked genuine relationships. In fact, that reflected how thing were. The concepts of how to create, develop, and preserve friendships was nonexistent at the time of the first book's creation. Adding Jo deviates from the original script. However, it is done intentionally to foster in Kitty these essential attributes of human existence. We hope that Jo, and the friends Kitty will soon come across in the subsequent books, will allow Kitty to be more human. We at SCC thank you for your time, and hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as we have writing them.
